Youssef is an Egyptian novelist, poet, and essayist who writes in both Arabic and English. A graduate of Hull University, England, he is also an editor, translator, and creative writing coach. Youssef’s work has been translated into French, German, Italian, Spanish, and other languages. His first novel, The Book of the Sultan’s Seal, won the 2015 Banipal Seif Ghobash Prize while his most recent, Paulo, won the 2017 Sawiris Award. Youssef’s English writing is featured in, among others, The Atlantic, Guernica, The Kenyon Review, The White Review, and The New York Times. He is the founding editor of the website The Sultan’s Seal.
