Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines WILL NOT be reviewed.

For literary nonfiction projects, please send the following as a single file: a query letter, a brief literary resume, and a book proposal (arranged in that order). Acceptable file types are DOC and DOCX. PDFs will not be accepted.

Query letters should be concise and straightforward—no more than a page. Address the letter to the agent, not to a generic “to whom it may concern.” Provide a clear outline of your topic, indicating what makes it unique and compelling. Tell us about the intended audiences. What benefit will these readers get from your book? Identify at least 5 relatively recent comparison titles. Finally, tell us about yourself and your literary background, including prior publications, residencies, prizes, and any other information relevant to your career as a writer. Please note that you must use the book proposal template provided here without exceptions. We will not review a proposal if it is not prepared to specifications. Please do not send a manuscript unless we have specifically requested it.

Send your submission package as a single attachment to Please include in the body of your email: your name, contact information (email address and phone number), and project category (i.e. literary nonfiction). Please advise if the proposal has been rejected by publishers in the past and if there is any other information you may consider relevant to our consideration of the proposal. The submission file must include the working title of your book and your last name. Example: Vineland_Nguyen. The subject line of your email should be in this format: Query—Title—Last Name. Example: Query—Vineland—Nguyen. You will receive an auto-response via email confirming receipt of your submission. Please do not call or email to follow up.

When you submit a query we review it against the following criteria: quality and clarity of the query, literary merit of the project and significance, freshness and originality of the project, and project viability and publishing potential.

We aim to respond to queries for literary nonfiction within 4 to 8 weeks. Due to the large volume of submissions we receive daily, it is not always possible for us to provide a written response to every query. If you have not received a response within the given time frame, it unfortunately indicates that we do not intend to pursue your project for representation.

We look forward to reading your submission.
