WILLENFIELD LITERARY AGENCY

Willenfield Literary is a full-service literary agency specializing in high-quality literary fiction, literary nonfiction, and general nonfiction. Our emphasis is on sophisticated, innovative, and intellectually ambitious writing with a contemporary sensibility — from Canada and around the world. We particularly look for writers who value craft and possess a distinctive, authentic style.

Based in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, Willenfield Literary was founded with a vision for a new kind of literary agency, one that would globally champion cutting-edge writers and their works more effectively and more granularly than the bigger literary agencies.

We are focused on leveraging our in-depth knowledge, experience, and industry linkages to provide world-class literary representation and management. We have strong relationships with editors in New York, Toronto, London, and other publishing hubs around the world, and travel frequently to meet with them. We also attend international book fairs like Frankfurt, London, and Book Expo America.

Our hands-on approach means that clients benefit from our close attention; they can also count on us to do all the strategic heavy-lifting on their behalf. We discuss all publishing possibilities with them from the outset and work collaboratively to place their projects with leading publishing houses in Canada, the United States, the UK, and other English-language markets.

Once a project has sold, we will vigorously pursue opportunities in foreign and translation sales, film, television, magazine, digital, and audio — directly or in conjunction with specialist co-agents.

Being a new agency, we are currently building our client list. We welcome queries for a wide range of literary fiction, literary nonfiction, and general nonfiction projects from established and emerging writers of all backgrounds and identities, from Canada and internationally.

Willenfield Literary is committed to the highest standards in literary representation and does not charge reading fees; neither do we charge for our time and expense in reviewing, editing, and developing projects for sale.
